Frequently Asked Questions

We answer your questions about CFE regulation, hurricane resistance and return on investment in Baja California Sur.

?How does interconnection work in BCS?

In Baja California Sur, to request CFE interconnection you must first have a solar system already installed. With the installation done, you enter the CFE queue to obtain a bidirectional meter when they become available. Meanwhile, you can operate with Zero Export and start saving from day one, without waiting for CFE to assign the meter.

?What if CFE denied my interconnection permit?

This is exactly the situation we designed our Zero Export systems for. If CFE denies the permit because circuits are saturated, we install smart inverters that limit solar production to never inject energy into the grid. Technically you don't need an interconnection permit because you're not interconnecting—you only generate and consume in real time. It's a completely legal and effective solution.

?What happens to my panels when a hurricane comes?

All our systems are certified for Category 4-5 hurricane winds (250 km/h). We use marine-grade anodized aluminum structures with seismic anchors. During Hurricane Norma in 2023, none of our systems suffered structural damage. If you have a hybrid system with batteries, your home keeps running during blackouts.

?How long does a solar system last in Cabo's climate?

With the right components, a solar system lasts 30 years. The main enemy in Los Cabos is salt mist. That's why all our systems use IEC 61701 certified panels (marine corrosion resistance), hermetically sealed connectors and marine-grade wiring.

?Is battery backup worth it?

Adding batteries increases the initial investment (ROI of 3 to 5 years), but the value of having electricity during hurricanes is priceless. Your refrigerator, air conditioning and security systems keep running when the grid collapses. For full-time owners, this value exceeds the purely financial calculation.

?Who manages the CFE process?

We fully manage the turnkey process: feasibility study, application, electrical design, permits and inspections. Your only responsibility is to sign. If the circuit is saturated, we pivot to Zero Export at no additional cost.

?What if my consumption increases in the future?

All our systems are modular. If you add an electric car or heat your pool, we simply add more panels. We size the initial inverter and structure with 30-40% expansion capacity to facilitate this growth.
